Cystic Fibrosis trust, charity no 1079049
ABOUT THE TRUST AND SHOW ORGANISERS JON & ALLISON
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the UK's only national charity dedicated to all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The trust funds research to treat and cure CF and aims to ensure appropriate clinical care and support for people with Cystic Fibrosis.
Jon Couzens and Allison Kiln are independently planning events, with support from the CF Trust, dedicated to curing cystic fibrosis through music & arts. The goal is to raise funds for the CF trust charity, by staging some high profile music concerts throughout the UK.
Their beautiful 10 year-old daughter, Hannah, has cystic fibrosis, which is a genetic medical condition, causing lung damage as well as pancreatic and stomach problems to which there is currently no cure. However, the CF trust charity has made great progress into helping sufferers of this terminal condition and are much closer to curing the lung problems, which is the major cause of illness and death in CF. Scientists have developed a product to correct the gene defect found in the lungs and are planning a single clinical trial for the beginning of 2008 followed by a multi-dose trial, funding permitting.
It costs £3million each year to fund the CF scientists consortium alone and these trials will cost an additional £6.5million at least. Therefore, because this medical breakthrough is so important and this cause is so close to their hearts, they believe the best way to help is to raise funds (and awareness) by organising some high profile concerts. As parents and Jon being a musician, they feel this would be a very positive way of helping Hannah and all CF sufferers live longer and healthier lives.
