John Crawford - BEECAKE
www.myspace.com/johncrawfordbeecake
John began playing drums at the age of 17, purchasing a kit from a local store in Glasgow having never taken a stick to a drum before. Johns natural love and enthusiasm for the drums saw him draw influence from bands such as INXS, Japan, Marillion and U2 to teach himself by some high standards.
Influenced by players like Chad Smith, Stuart Copeland, Jon Farris and Larry Mullen Jnr among others, John grew up playing in several bands with close friends Billy Boyd and Billy Johnston in the late eighties and nineties throughout Scotland on the Glasgow music scene.
John then began working regularly in function and events bands from 2000 for a number of years but looked for a change in 2006 by forming BEECAKE with his old mates for enjoyment: things turning a little more serious when the band began receiving rave live reviews and coverage in the music press for their high calibre song-craft and musicality.
John’s highlight to date must have been when one of his drumming heroes, Mark Brzezicki gave John an ovation from the side stage after BEECAKE opened for Big Country in Inverness at The Ironworks in December 2007.
